Lotus Cars is a British company that manufactures sports and racing cars. Known for its light weight and fine handling automobiles, the company is based at the former site of RAF Hethel, a World War II airfield. Founded in 1952 as Lotus Engineering Ltd. by Colin Chapman, Lotus was acquired in 1994 by Proton after the former owner, Romano Artioli, went backrupt.

One of the most memorable cars logos in history, the Lotus logo is derivative of the initials of its founder, Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman, contained in a triangular lozenge pattern against a green background, which itself lies inside a yellow circle.
The yellow color in the Lotus logo represents sun while the other color is deep, rich British racing green. All Lotus cars were painted British racing green with yellow particularization. With the advent of corporate sponsorships, the sports cars started featuring rolling billboards.
