The word “Bluetooth" comes from the surname of a 10th century Danish monarch, King Herald Bluetooth, who is famous for uniting Scandinavian Europe during the time when the region was suffering through warfare.
Ericcson, a Swedish Company, originated the Bluetooth Technology movement in 1994. In 1998, five major companies IBM, Intel, Nokia, Toshiba and Ericsson established the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) with the objective to add advancements to the technology. The Bluetooth SIG also takes care of the enhancement of the features of Bluetooth technology by research and development.
Bluetooth technology has developed massively since it was first introduced. In 2008, Bluetooth was the first wireless technology to distribute over two billion products worldwide, in the duration of 10 years.
